Guys, I got the flea market find of the century! I was at my local San Francisco flea on Sunday, minding my own damn business, when I stumbled, like I mean, I literally tripped upon a Nichols rug from the 1930s.
I literally almost lost my mind. The colors and patterns were so rich and intricate that I immediately touched them and was pleased to feel their clearly authentic, velvety texture. I just knew this was a legit antique. After years of sourcing rugs, you know the real from the fakes.
I played it cool when I asked the vendor for the price, concealing my excitement. I was sure he would say something outrageous about the 9×12 beauty because similar rugs go for six to twelve thousand online. Yes, that much, guys!
When he flippantly said 50 dollars, I felt my knees get weak. I tried it calmly, didn’t even negotiate, and snatched it up immediately. I am always, and I do mean always, on the lookout for incredible rugs, especially in the 9×12 size. While I don’t have a spot for this in my home at the moment, I will find a spot for her in the cabin or with one of you for a design consultation. When you see pieces this magical, you have to get them. Like i said – these go for thousands online! Look at a similar one on 1st Dibs.
This rug is a literal masterpiece with, you guessed it, lots of inky, moody charm. Despite its age, it still exuded beauty and resilience. I can’t believe it’s mine. I am going to clean the flat weave rug and store it until I am ready to style it at the cabin.
Remember, unexpected beauty can be unearthed at any time—if only we have the patience and curiosity to seek it out.
We just finished backfilling many open trenches at the cabin that fed our propane and gas lines and new electrical to the house for the generator. I am so happy to finally have them filled to return the meadow to its former glory. It’s so lush at the moment. I plan to throw more clover lawn seed starters when we wake up. In doing that, we were able to finally turn on the generator and have it power the entire house. It was an amazing feeling to hear the roar of the generator kick on and see the lights flicker to life. This is the moment that the power turned on. I was a and still am so excited.
Lastly, we were able to install the bit toto that our dear friends Brian and Lindsey @Timbecovehideaway gifted us. I got to try it out for the first time and let me tell you, I am so glad to have a toiler back in working order at the cabin. Let’s say that part of the process was getting old. This toiler is so perfect for us.
Lindsey and Brian were kind enough to let us stay at their gorgeous Air and B b for the night, so I am here now listening to Duran Duran on their record player and enjoying the ocean view. I wish you guys were here!
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again- indoor plants make my house a home, period. One of my favorite house plants is the Chinese Money Plant. They are super easy to take care of and just absolutely gorgeous. This is the perfect indoor plant if you’re just starting your collection and feeling a bit nervous. Check out my guide on how to grow a Chinese Money Plant here.
