Progress at the cabin has been picking up steam—literally. I was sweating so much last weekend; as the temperatures reached over 87 degrees, we hammered away at the failed tile in the bathroom and removed the ancient tub and old vanity. But the (one) fun part was arriving to see that our statement Ripple Sconce in numeric arrived, and I was so sure it would be precisely what the space needed. Do you know what? It’s perfect. The joy is absolute. The muddy turmeric yellow will compliment the overall bath design with deep, inky, evergreen 2×2 tiles and matte black finishes so well. Even better? The scale is just above our recessed medicine cabinets with deep shelves for tons of storage for our lotions and potions. Just look at this magic.
I guess I want to remind folks always to grab a piece of furniture (bonus points if it’s vintage), whether it is a sofa, light fixture, or even a bedroom rug, that makes you feel good. Don’t worry about if it “goes” or not. I mean, use good judgment – but place it in your space and design (around) with it. If you do this, you will have happier, more joyful spaces instead of getting a matching beige sofa, curtains, and rug. Once you have a statement piece, get another with the same vibe, and you will be on your way to a space that feels truly “special” and uniquely yours. These sconces are that for me.
Looking ahead, we are going to finish the demo and begin the electrical for both the bidet – yes, we have a fancier toilet at the cabin than we do “at home.” the sconces, a much need vent to remove the shower moisture and new sconces. I have a great contractor who is on deck to help – sometimes, you gotta know when to leave it to a professional tradesman. I don’t want to start a fire! Wish us luck and stay close in stores for progress.
The recent cabin bathroom renovation had me reminiscing about one of my favorite home DIY projects- floating shelves. I created a blog post on the exact step-by-step tutorial to creating your own personalised floating shelves. Take a look at it here and let me know how your final design turns out!
