Cabin Chic

Last week, I created a mood board blog post for a boho-chic dining room. This got me thinking about different ways to decorate your dining table for everyday living. If you’re anything like me, the dining room is a part of your home that you literally live in the most. I am also here making my iced coffee or whipping up my husband’s favorite fried chicken sandwich recipe. Does your better half ask for the same dinner every single night of the week, too? At least it’s a compliment to this one meal.

Anywho—I digress. There are so many different aspects to consider to help make a dining room kitchen table sing, and I know lots (like a lot, a lot) of you get stuck balancing the careful art of making your kitchen table to look nice while still having it function with a family of four every single day. But don’t worry, I wrapped up all my years of experience helping folks make their kitchen table magi and taking all the mystery out of this for you. Cross my heart, loves. Be sure to check out my top ten dining room decorating ideas and get your table decor on! You got this.

But speaking of getting after it. We have drywall at the cabin. So, for real, this is the best part. When sheetrock goes up in the Reno process, you can really start to see how the Rome dimensions and shape will come together. When the walls are open, it can be hard to visualize the final result – but at this stage, things feel real. – like really real, and I love it. Plus, I just love knowing that behind all that gorgeous drywall is high-end insulation and brand-new copper pipes! Bring on the bubble baths already. I can’t take it any longer.

Also, great news: We lowered that pesky electrical switch, which prevented us from recessing our medicine cabinets in the wall. I didn’t want them sticking out four whole inches. We moved it, and then, to ensure we could have the medicine cabinets exactly where we wanted, we notched into the vertical frame and reinforced the area around it. Great design takes engineering sometimes. Peep the new mushroom light sconce placement too. So exciting! The design is in the details, after all.

I am so grateful to our GC for helping us solve that riddle. I was worried that it was going to turn into a whole nightmare of change orders and additional wiring. Don’t accept defeat right away y’all. There is always a solution, one way or the other. That being said, electrical is something you want to get right. Remember when I swapped out my hallway flush mount in San Francisco? I;ve come so far since then!

We are heading up this weekend (literally as you read this) to check on all the work we missed while away and were not able to help with. This includes new mud and stucco in the living room. Always be sure to check our contractor’s work, folks. You are the quality control, and you want to make sure you get what you paid for. I am just so thrilled—our team has been great, and I know in my gut before even arriving that they got this right!
