I just have to say…designing and renovating the cabin has been more than just a renovation project; it’s been a transformative journey that has deeply impacted my life for the better. What started as an impossible dream – to purchase and spruce up a northern California retreat away from the drain and strain of city life has turned into a journey of self-discovery, growth, and a newfound appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Sure…I always loved the little joys, but the simplicity of life at the Cabin has me captivated. Am I ready for chickens now? My Pinterest, chock-full of the most tantalizing home inspiration seems to think so. Also, side note. We decided on Evergreen tiles from Fireclay (the one on the right below) for the bathroom. Thanks for all the help selecting this tile guys.
The cabin continues to challenge and reward me every day. There are lots of steps backward and just as many (and then some) forward. It pushes me to learn new skills (like hanging drywall), problem-solve creatively, and persevere through setbacks. Each coat of (Chantilly lace white) paint, every nail hammered, and all the sweat and tears poured into this home are a labor of love that is revitalizing not only the cabin but also my spirit. Can anyone else relate? If you are here, I am sure you can.
As the cabin continued to transform, so did I. I still can’t believe we restored all 28 windows that were previously leaking! Working in solitude and or with other amazing humans along the way. Thanks, Lindsay and Brian from @timbercovehideaway, for the amazing Toto bidet toilet. We’re installing this beauty tomorrow! It all has allowed me to grow and reflect on my life, goals, and priorities. It’s just hard not to find joy surrounded by the beauty of the redwoods and roses. Home is so important to me, and at that cabin, I continue to find clarity, peace, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Now, as I sit on the deck, where I still need to sand and stain the entire exterior—I still want to go black—I am filled with gratitude for this incredible. The cabin is not just a place; it’s my sanctuary, an opportunity where I hope amazing memories can be made with family and friends. I can smell the tri-tip BBQs already. Okay, thanks for listening. On another note…
Plant home decor is absolutely essential in my spaces. Now that the weather is warming up, I’ve had a lot of people asking for tips on how to prevent flies from indoor plants. It’s quite simple to avoid flies altogether- check out some of the most effective preventive measures you can implement for your indoor plants. You’re welcome!
I’ve searched for bathroom inspiration a lot recently – if you haven’t seen the final(ish) cabin bathroom design, make sure you check it out here. One bathroom that has stuck in my mind is this gorgeous classic contemporary bathroom design. It’s such a mood! The dark wood cabinetry and the light wall color and accents creates a stunning contrast and sets the stage for a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary elements. I absolutely love mixing new accent pieces with antique elements to really make a space pop. Let’s jump into the mood board I’ve created!
Gold Wall Mirror
First, we have this gold wall mirror. The unique shield shape creates visual interest and serves as a focal point for a classic contemporary bathroom and instantly adds a touch of glamour to the space. Looking for a mirror with storage? Check out my bathroom storage blog!
Ocean Art Print
This ocean art print would make the perfect addition to a classic contemporary bathroom. You could add it to an antique frame or just use a simple frame and add it to a gallery wall. Either way, it’s stunning.
Faux Hydrangea Bundle
Next, I found this gorgeous faux hydrangea bundle to add a pop of color to any space. The flowers add texture and softness to the classic contemporary bathroom design and create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere to pamper yourself in.
Matte Sconce
These matte black sconces are perfect for this classic contemporary bathroom. The bold and understated elegance of the matte black color adds a touch of sophistication to the bathroom. Check out more black sconces here.
Organic Towel Set
Every bathroom needs the perfect set of towels and this organic towel set is exactly that. They’re soft and absorbent, but not too heavy, and the dark coloring works cohesively with the accent pieces in the space.
Teak Wood Bench
Next, I found this teak wood bench to add a bit of character in personality into the classic contemporary bathroom space. The wood tones of the bench also contrast beautifully with the other materials in the bathroom.
Bath Caddy
I love a good bath caddy and this one does not disappoint. The wood texture follows the trend for the classic contemporary bathroom and creates a nice place to place your beverage of choice during your relaxing bath.
Bottle Vase Decor
Next, I found this bottle vase decor to add a rustic accent piece. The faux hydrangea bundle would look gorgeous in this vessel and it keeps the vibe going of old mixing together with new.
Freestanding Bathtub
Last is this gorgeous freestanding bathtub. The dark color of the bathtub creates contrast against lighter elements in the classic contemporary bathroom design and the sleek and modern design evokes a spa-like atmosphere. Who doesn’t want their bathroom to feel like a spa?
