It’s been a blur over here this week. We finally finished remediation at the cabin and are headed there now to check it all out. I have my fingers crossed that everything checks out and looks good. We will do one round of mold spore testing ASAP to ensure everything is safe. If everything is clear, we will begin the kitchen design and sourcing process and then the floors.

As if that wasn’t enough, I had already started messing around with the bathroom design. I am considering distressed fireclay tile, new fixtures, sconces, a coat of paint, and a new vanity. After all, the floors in the bathroom also had to be removed from the water damage. Does anything below strikes your fancy?

Remember when I was going to start with the bedroom first? Restoring or renovating old homes is not for the faint of heart loves. Sometimes, your plan goes out the window. But we stay ready so we don’t have to get prepared here at 136 home. You must be willing to pivot along the way and not stress too much.

That being said it got us thinking about floors, and I was surprised that so many of you wanted to go traditional with the flooring. All for great reasons, tho. Thanks for all the DM’s about the maintenance, dust etc. All of which I know, but was afraid to accept. Sometimes function is greater than form. I just couldn’t deal with the mud and dust all day.

If you missed it on Instagram, I mocked up floors with a traditional oak and an ebony finish. The good news is we won’t go black, and it was overwhelmingly agreed to by your votes – especially if we go all black with the cabinets in the kitchen and soapstone countertops. But we do go traditional with the floors. In that case, we will have black window trim, beams, and an accent wall to offset the warm redwood trim and molding that we sadly have to restore now, considering we had to remove a ton of it in the water and mold remediation. See the removed molding and floor mockups below. Stay tuned!

Let me tell you about my obsession with succulents – they’re an absolute must-have in my cabin and basically everywhere in my life. But here’s the thing: I refuse to spend all my money buying them. Instead, I’ve mastered the art of propagation (and it’s so easy). It’s like magic – I have this foolproof guide on exactly how to do it, and trust me, it brings so much joy to my home. Check out this guide on how to propagate succulents here!
